Hoyos, González unavailable to lead Inter Miami tonight against Montréal

New Inter Miami coach Kily González, an Argentine, can't take the Herons' reins until he completes the necessary paperwork and interim coach Guillermo Hoyos is suspended for failing to return his team to the pitch in a timely manner after halftime in four of the previous six matches.

That leaves assistant coaches Rafael Pérez and Rodrigo Vargas in charge tonight when the Herons host CF Montréal trying to snap a five-match winless skid. Inter Miami (11-4-6, 39 points) still is second in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference despite losing four and drawing one of its last four matches. Nashville SC (15-2-4, 49 points) has the league's best overall record and is on pace for 79 regular season points, which would top Inter Miami's single season record of 74 points earned set two years ago.

Montréal (5-10-6, 21 points) enter the contest14th in the 15-team conference. The Herons edged L'Impact 1-0 in Montréal on July 25. The Canadian side hasn't lost since, earning a modest four-match unbeaten streak with a 2-1 win against Columbus and draws against New England, DC United and the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Herons likely will start Lionel Messi (14 goals, 9 assists), Luis Suárez (10 goals, 8 assists), and Germán Berterame (7 goals, 5 assists) up top. Prince Owusu (13 goals, 5 assists) is Les Canadiens most dangerous offensive player.

Alexis Sánchez, 37, a star winger and striker who enjoyed his greatest success playing with Messi at Barcelona from 2011-2014 and Arsenal from 2014-2018, joined Montréal as a designated player earlier this month and will be playing his third match for the club. He came off the bench in each of the previous two matches and has played 39 minutes without registering a goal or an assist.

Hoyos, who has compiled a record of 9-3-5 as interim coach after the surprise resignation of Javier Mascherno in April, will continue coaching the Herons until González receives the approvals needed to work in the United States.
