The former Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham defender joins the Men in Pink as a free agent, with his last bit of footballing action coming on May 16th, 2025, playing 75 minutes for Tottenham in a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.
The move shows Miami's intent to remain competitive even after winning MLS Cup. Additionally the signing is a much-needed replacement for Jordi Alba who retired at the end of the 2025 season.
""It’s a very ambitious project, a winning Club that is doing things the right way, and that’s what attracted me: coming here to keep winning and competing.""Sergio Reguilon
Reguilon arrives in Miami with an extensive resume that was shaped by playing for several high profile clubs in Europe. Known for his willingness to get forward in attack, the former Madrid academy product built his reputation as a fullback that's more than capable of impacting both ends of the field.
The 28-year-old's ability to overlap, have an impact in the final third all while being able to recover defensively will fit into Miami's high-pressure, free flowing style.
While no player can replicate what Jordi Alba was able to do on the field for the Herons, Reguilon is, perhaps, the closest player profile.
With a busy and competitive 2026 season ahead, Miami wasted no time re-tooling their roster with the hopes of repeating as MLS Cup Champions.
