Last Sunday, Inter Miami lost the Leagues Cup final against the Seattle Sounders. The match played at Lumen Field ended with a horrible battle between players of both teams.
Actions that harm the sport's image. Despite the outrageous moment, the crucial thing here is that the Herons were outplayed by the Sounders in every aspect of the game.
Inter Miami seemed to be a different team than the one in previous matches. Pedro De La Vega discussed the keys to beating the Herons.
Pedro De La Vega: “The individual part doesn't stand out in us.”
The Argentine winger is one of the most dangerous attackers on the Seattle Sounders. With a decent performance against Miami, Pepo De La Vega talked with reporters after the match about how the Sounders prepared for the game and what elements helped them beat Inter Miami:
“I’m happy for the championship, for the team, really happy about that. In fact, I didn’t even expect the trophy. We are a team that works very well collectively; what stands out in us is not the individual. I’m very happy to achieve such an important accomplishment for the club and for the city as well.”
He is not wrong. What De La Vega said is true. Inter Miami, with Messi, Suarez, De Paul, Busquets, Alba, Segovia, is not considered a collective team. A team that doesn't need a brilliant move or action from their captain to win a game.
If there is anyone who thinks differently, they are lying to themselves. And that’s Inter Miami's biggest issue. If Messi doesn’t invent a beautiful play, or Suarez isn’t on a good game, the Herons have a hard time beating any team.
A game that could be used as proof is against D.C. United. Javier Mascherano rotated the team due to the tight calendar, and the team ended the game with a draw, because Baltasar Rodriguez had a brilliant shot.
The manager and the players need to figure this out, cause Messi will not be playing for much longer.
To conclude, any squad that plays as a team, and not for individuality, can beat Inter Miami, even with all their star players.
