He spent two years at the helm of Inter Miami in its opening seasons and was terminated. His stay at Sevilla in La Liga didn’t last nearly that long.

Alonso Moves From Inter to Uruguay to Spain

Alonso was relieved of his duties with Inter Miami in 2021 after the Herons finished 10th in the Eastern Conference with seven wins, three draws and 13 losses.

Despite the record, Inter Miami did qualify for the MLS Cup playoffs in its inaugural season in the league.

Less than 12 months later, Alonso was appointed as the Uruguay national team coach where he helped the team qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

However, the team failed to advance out of the group stage and Alonso was relieved of his duties in February.

After Sevilla sacked manager Jose Luis Mendilibar, Alonso was appointed manager of the La Liga side in October.

But, after a rough run of play, including just two wins in 14 matches and no wins in the UEFA Champions League group stage, Alonso was dismissed on Sunday.

Throughout his managerial career, Alonso has 178 wins, 133 defeats and 95 draws in 406 matches across five leagues and one international appointment.

It’s unclear where Alonso will land next, if anywhere. But teams would be keen to keep a sharp eye on his tenuous managerial past… including at Inter Miami.
