Christmas Comes Early for Lionel Messi and Inter Miami
After initially failing to secure a deal in July, five months later, Suarez was free of his previous contract and was able to sign with Inter Miami.
The addition reunites Suarez with striker Lionel Messi, midfielder Sergio Busquets and defender Jordi Alba from their days at Barcelona.
Messi and Suarez won the La Liga title four times from 2014 to 2019 along with the UEFA Champions League crown in 2015 and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2016.
To his record, in addition to the titles with Barcelona, Suarez helped Ajax win the Eredivisie title in 2011 and the Dutch Cup in 2010.
He was part of the Liverpool side that captured the League Cup in 2012.
Suarez also helped his boyhood club, Club Nacional, win the Uruguayan league title in 2006 and again in 2022 before joining Gremio in Brazil.
In his one season at Gremio, Suarez, 36, was the second-leading scorer in the league despite battling consistent knee issues. In 53 games across all competitions, Suarez notched 26 goals and 17 assists for the Brazilian side.
As part of the Uruguayan national team, Suarez has participated in the Copa America tournament four times and the World Cup four times — winning the Copa America in 2011.
It’s safe to say Suarez has the pedigree to compete, but the biggest question is with the nagging knee issues, how much will he be able to contribute?
