On July 12, Inter Miami defender DeAndre Yedlin was named as a 2022 MLS All-Star. The USMNT defender was selected as a coach's pick by Minnesota United's coach, Adrian Heath. Yedlin is Inter Miami's second All-Star in the club's history, as Rodolfo Pizarro was selected to the game in 2020.
The selection is Yedlin's third, as he was selected as a member of the Seattle Sounders in 2013 and 2014. Interestingly, Yedlin has now made the All-Star game in all three seasons that he has played in the MLS.
Since making the move to south Florida from, the 29-year-old Yedlin has given Inter Miami an outside back that can create chances and also defend. His pace allows him to run down the wing, and he also has a great curling cross that sets up forwards for easy goals. Through 17 matches with the Herons in 2022, Yedlin has a pair of assists. Both set-ups were played through the air and put into the back of the net.
Throughout Inter Miami's short history, right back has been a revolving door, with Alvas Powell, Dylan Nealis, Ben Sweat and Kelvin Leerdam all leaving the club within a season or two. Yedlin has been the first in the franchise's history to be a consistent player at the right back position. In the process, he has become a cornerstone player for the club.
Yedlin is a lock for the Herons in its lineup, and allows the forwards a chance to score. Through 2022, Yedlin has 31 shot-creating actions, and will continue to create for the playoff hopeful Herons. With the addition of Alejandro Pozuelo and the great play of Leo Campana and Yedlin, things are looking upwards for Inter Miami.
