Former Manchester City Defender On Inter Miami’s Radar

Reports out of England are that both Messi and Martino have reached out to test the waters of bringing defender Marco Rojo to South Florida.

The tie of Rojo to Inter Miami’s star and coach is that Rojo made 61 appearances for the Argentinian national team, including a pair of World Cup tournaments.

Rojo first signed with Manchester United in 2014 from Portuguese side Sporting CP.

Six years later, he was loaded to Argentine club Estudiantes LP where he played from January 2020 to June 2020 when he returned to Manchester.

In February 2021, he moved to Boca Juniors on a free transfer where he has remained since.

But, his contract is up at the end of December, making him a potential free transfer for Inter Miami.

Since joining Boca Juniors, Rojo helped the club win the league cup and the regular-season title.

He was part of the Estudiantes LP team that won the Copa Libertadores in 2009 and the Argentine regular-season title in 2010.

At Manchester United, Rojo was part of a squad that won the Super Cup in 2016 and 2017 the League Cup in 2017, the FA Cup in 2016 and the Europa League title in 2017.

According to the report in The Mirror, Rojo started his career as a left-back, but now mainly plays in the defensive center — which would make him a good fit for Inter Miami.

Playing on the left would put him in competition with Jordi Alba.

He has the pedigree and the experience to play in Major League Soccer, but there might be some issues with bringing Rojo to Inter Miami.
