Is Leonardo Campana already the best striker in Inter Miami's history?

There have been a plethora of forwards and strikers that have joined the team with the likes of Juan Agudelo, Julian Carranza, and probably the most liked player on the club, Lewis Morgan. Do not forget about Gonzalo Higuain who has been with the club since September 2020 and has been the club's leading scorer with 15 goals in his three seasons with the club.

But even with that said, is Leonardo Campana proving to be the best forward that the club and the Inter Miami CF faithful have ever seen?

The club announced back in January that it has signed the 21-year old Ecuadorian from Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan throughout the current season's campaign with an option to buy. This means that the club can struck a deal with Wolves at the end of this season and based on what I've been seeing from him lately, it would not be a shock if the club decides to sign him.

In his 14 games played, Campana already has seven goals (almost half of Higuain's total number of goals) and two assists.

Leonardo Campana has scored 7 goals in 14 Inter Miami games

With his prolific season for the Herons, the Ecuador National Football Team manager Gustavo Alfaro called-up Campana for Ecuador’s round of matches for the current international break – stateside friendlies against Nigeria, Mexico and Cape Verde. The Inter Miami forward returns to the national side after going 10 months without receiving a call-up. He had been part of the squad in last year's Copa America but fell off soon after.

In an interview after the announcement, Campana said, "This is a big push forward for me. All the work that I’ve been doing for the team is paying off. Thankfully things are going well here. I have found consistency and the trust from the manager and my teammates has been very important, and so it is an honor to form part of the national team. I’m sure I’ll be there in Qatar and that my national team will have a good performance there.”

With his inclusion to the latest list of Ecuador National Football Team, it would not be a shock if Inter Miami fans will see him play for Ecuador on the 2022 FIFA World Cup this November in Qatar.

Personally, I like what I've been seeing from Campana. When he's on the field, the flow of the offense looks seamless. That's something that fans have been waiting to see from Gonzalo.

But while Campana may be the leading-scorer for the club this season, we also have to give props to the whole team for making the offense and defense work every single game.

With Campana on board, potentially in the next few seasons, the sky is the limit for Inter Miami.

I wouldn't be surprised if this year's lineup can sneak past the first round. There is certainly a lot of excitement with how the club is playing this season.
