With his brace against Columbus Crew to secure Inter Miami's first ever supporters shield, Lionel Messi overtook compatriot and former long term teammate Gonzalo Higuain, to become the club's second record goalscorer.

Higuain, who used to hold the record himself, was sat in second with 29, but has been overtaken by Messi, who is now on 30 goals. Fellow South American and current teammate Leonardo Campana is currently out in front on 31 - but Messi is more than breathing down his neck, with the Ecuadorian striker finding the ample game time hard to come by in order to try and extend his lead out in front.

Meanwhile, another South American fellow and another current teammate, Luis Suarez, is on 22, and with a potential strong end to the regular season and playoff campaign, could overtake Higuain before the year is out - or at least get quite close.

Messi's goals-per-game ratio of 0.88 is by far the best of anyone in the top 10, with Suarez next best with a ratio of 0.68. Simply out of this world.

Elsewhere, Messi is also one off the record for most assists in Inter Miami's history. He has 17, whilst current player Robert Taylor has 18 - Another player, Jordi Alba, is third, with 15. Taylor and Alba are the only European players in the top 10.

The GOAT continues to set records, wherever he goes. All of this, whilst transforming a team that finished rock bottom of the pile last year. 30 goals, 17 assists, and two pieces of silverware in just 34 games since he rocked up on South Beach in the summer of 2023.

No doubt that the king will have this record broken by the end of 2024, with two regular season games and the play-offs still to come. A very exciting time on South Beach indeed.
