Luis Suarez has done it again. He has broken a record. With his two goals against FC Cincinnati, the striker surpasses Gonzalo Higuain as the player with the most goals in a single season with Inter Miami. Since joining the Herons, Suarez has scored 18 goals in 26 games, two more than Higuain.

In 2024, Inter Miami participated in the MLS, Leagues Cup, and CONCACAF Champions Cup. In those competitions, Suarez scored 14 goals in the MLS, two in the Champions Cup, and two in the Leagues Cup.

On the other hand, Gonzalo Higuain came to Inter Miami in 2020. A brand new club emerged in the MLS, and the Argentinian, who had no place in Europe, decided to go and try this new experience of playing in the US. Gonzalo achieved his record by scoring 16 goals in the 2022 season. The rareness is that all his goals were just in the MLS regular season, with zero goals in the MLS Playoffs and the US Open Cup.

Why is this a good thing for Inter Miami?

With the arrival of Luis Suarez, many critics said he came here to retire, to drink mate with Messi, and that he has no rest in the tank to compete. Bringing up his knee problems and age, the striker didn't listen and decided to prove they were wrong.

He had a rough start, trying to realize he needed to adapt his playing style for two reasons. The first one, the MLS, is a different world compared to European or South American leagues. Secondly, he couldn't run like when he was young. In the end, this allowed him to realize he could help the team with his passes and finishing rather than running to pressure every rival.

Once he recognized the qualities the team needed from him. He was unstoppable. The team made the right call by bringing Luis Suarez. Not for nothing, he is among the top five scorers in the MLS this season.

Keep believing in the Pistolero. He has more goals coming.
