Our January 2024 Defender Wish List for Inter Miami

The January 2024 transfer window has opened and already Inter Miami has brought in Luis Suarez and parted ways with defender Kamal Miller. We have a list of potential targets for Inter Miami’s backline.

The Methodology Behind Our Inter Miami Wish List

First, I completely recognize the names on our wish list are likely never to happen.

That’s mostly because I looked at Europe as Inter Miami has been more prone to sign international players of late than try to find talent already in MLS.

Additionally, I wanted to look for players that Inter Miami to bring in relatively cheap… at least in terms of a transfer fee.

So that meant limiting the list to players who were either out or nearly finished with their current contracts.

Then, I only focused on one position… defense.

Not forwards or midfielders because Inter Miami is already pretty loaded at those positions — especially if we expect former Columbus midfielder Julian Gressel to sign with the Herons this month.

Considering that Inter Miami has already sent Miller to Portland and parted with defensive midfielder Victor Ulloa (out of contract) and defender Leandro Gonzalez Pirez (signed permanently with River Plate) — the cupboard is a little bare at the back.

Essentially, I looked for players — mostly in Europe — that are either out of contract in January or at the end of the 2024 season (May or June).

(I picked up the list of players nearing the end of their contract from our friends at 90min.com).

That typically means Inter Miami could scoop up a player free or relatively cheap.

It’s not an exhaustive list, nor is it a list that is realistic by any stretch of the imagination (and I’ll include if it is realistic or not at the end).
