Playoff Chase: Inter Miami needs these results tonight

The quest for a highly unlikely MLS Cup playoff berth continues tonight as La Rosanegra host Nashville at DRV PNK Stadium. With 11 points to make up and just 11 matches to do it, the Herons need some help. In this first installment of Playoff Chase, we take a look at supporters of the pink should root for tonight.

Nashville (7th East) at Inter Miami (14th East)

Vamos Inter Miami! Spare me the “Captain Obvious” jokes, please. Of course, we want the Pink to prevail. Nashville has 38 points, 18 (!) fewer than Eastern Conference leader FC Cincinnati and 17 more than Inter Miami. We’re not likely to catch either team, but we desperately need every point we can get!

Montreal (8E) at NYCFC (13E)

Vamos, Pigeons! Inter Miami beat NY Red Bulls 2-0 Saturday to move out of the Eastern Conference cellar, but the Herons are rooting for a Big Apple club tonight. Passing NYCFC doesn’t help us if the bottom teams in the playoff club get too far ahead. (The top nine in each conference qualify for the championship tournament.

Orlando City (4E) at Charlotte (12E)

Vamos, other Florida team that shall not be named. The enemy of my playoff rival is still my enemy, but we should swallow our pride and root for the Purple tonight. See above.

Red Bulls (11E) at New England (3E)

Vamos, Energy Drink FC! Same logic. Red Bulls are eight points ahead of Inter Miami and 14 BEHIND the Revs. We can catch and pass the Red Bulls.

Vancouver (7W) at Chicago (9E)

Vamos, Whitecaps! Chicago is where we want to be; 9th place or better gets us an invitation to the party. That’s our target. The Fire, with 32 points, is 11 ahead of Inter Miami.
