There’s no ambiguity this week. Every team between Miami and a playoff spot are playing better competition that is NOT chasing the final postseason berth in the East.

Atlanta (6th, 45) at D.C. United (9th, 35th)

The Five Stripes. How ‘bout that? A week after spanking the Herons, we have to root for Atlanta United…playoff races are weird.

Chicago (10th, 33) at Columbus (5th, 45)

Columbus. The Crew lost 4-3 Saturday at Orlando City, but Wilfried Nancy’s charges are clicking.

Philadelphia (4th, 47) at Charlotte (11th, 32)

The Union. Philadelphia features former Herons Julian Carranza and Damian Lowe…for old time’s sake, fellas?

Orlando City (2nd, 50) at New York City FC (12th, 31)

The Lions. Once again, and probably not for the last time this season, our intrastate rivals are in prime position to help us out. Don’t look now, but Oscar Pareja has quietly turned the Purple into one of the East’s best sides.

Austin (12th West, 33) at New York Red Bulls (13th, 30)

Austin. The newest Texas side played LAFC in the West semifinals last year but has struggled mightily in 2023. Let’s hope they put it together Wednesday in New Jersey.
