The Daily Heron: Apple Numbers, Inter Miami Smoke and Much More

After a big match weekend for Inter Miami, we are back… scouring the headlines for all the good bits in today’s issue of The Daily Heron.

While the California celebrity crowd came out to watch what we already knew was great for Inter Miami, the Inter Heron staff was locked in on the match and finding those rare nuggets of headlines for you.

Headquartered just outside one of our favorite Cuban restaurants near downtown Miami, we have come up with some hits… and likely misses of all things Inter Miami.

Let’s get into it.

If Nothing Else, Apple Is Happy With Messi and Inter Miami

While most streaming services are pretty tight-lipped about their subscriber numbers, Apple certainly isn’t.

And why would they be?

The Wall Street Journal and learned Apple gained more than 110,000 sign-ups for its MLS Season Pass package immediately after signed with Inter Miami.

To put it in perspective, in the three months leading up to his arrival in Miami, Apple TV had about 39,000 signups.

In his first month playing for the Herons, Apple notched 288,000 new subscribers — more than six times more than what the service had in the three months before.

Who said the Messi Effect isn’t real?

Florida International Wants That Inter Miami Smoke

It wouldn’t be the first time a university shamelessly promoted themselves alongside Inter Miami.

This time, Florida International University’s public relations department decided it would be a good idea to compare the excitement of Inter Miami with the Panthers' 2-0-1 start to the season.

For the record, FIU is based in Miami and its men’s soccer program has won its conference title two years in a row — which is a bit more than Inter Miami can boast.

I couldn’t find this headline on Twitter, so you’ll have to click the link to read the sultry goodness developed by FIU media relations.

Big Ups To Inter Miami’s Additions to The Team of the Week

I don’t remember the last time Inter Miami had so much love from Major League Soccer outside of the team’s first match of the 2020 season.

This week, three (yes, three) Herons were named to the Team of the Matchday by MLS.

Interestingly enough, it was the right side of our team — Messi, defender Jordi Alba and goalkeeper Drake Callender.

Okay, Callender doesn’t play on the right, but you get the visual:

Alba picked up a goal against Los Angeles FC while Messi notched a brilliant assist to Leonardo Campana’s goal in the second half of Inter Miami’s 3-1 triumph in SoCal.

Callender was near perfection — only missing a clean sheet by a few minutes against LAFC after Ryan Hollingshead found the back of the net in the 90th minute.

The Inter Miami Guest List at Los Angeles

Initially, I wasn’t going to dedicate any words to this, but I had several questions about what celebrities attended Inter Miami’s 3-1 win at Los Angeles FC.

So, here you are:

Not for nothing, but big ups to Brendan Hunt and Jason Sudeikis for making an appearance. Not sure I really care about anyone else.

Oh, Messi was there… that I do know.

Roll on, La Familia, roll on.
