Called Up: Diego Gómez Called Up by Paraguay

Inter Miami CF newcomer Diego Gómez, a midfielder, has been called up to represent the Paraguayan national team for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

La Albirroja will host Peru at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 7, then visit Venezuela for their second qualifying match at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Gómez has represented the Paraguayan national team across youth and senior levels, captaining the U-20 team to the 2022 South American Games title, and captaining the team again at the 2023 South American U-20 Championship. At the senior international level, the midfielder debuted for Paraguay in Sept. 2022, and has made four appearances, including one start. He most recently featured for the senior side in a June 2023 friendly against Nicaragua.

He made his Inter Miami debut on Wednesday, Aug. 2 in a 3-1 victory over rivals Orlando City in the 2023 Leagues Cup Round of 32. He made five appearances in the competition to help Inter Miami win its first official piece of silverware. Most recently, Gómez scored his first Inter Miami goal in his MLS debut as the team earned an 0-2 win on the road against the New York Red Bulls on Aug. 26.
