The Daily Heron: Comparing Beckham’s and Messi’s impacts on MLS, Puerto Rico calls up Inter Miami trio

Welcome to The Daily Heron, an occasional compilation of current stories about Club Internacional de Futbol Miami. Look, if the Herons can play in Fort Lauderdale and still claim to be Miami’s team, we can use “daily” in the title. Right? Right. Let’s get started.

Puerto Rico calls three Herons for CONCACAF duty

Watching the senior team winning and winning dramatically, has been wonderful over the past six weeks or so, but I’m equally if not more excited about the job the club is doing developing players. It recently signed its 11th “homegrown” player from Inter Miami II, Lawson Sunderland, and has three homegrowns — Edison Azcona (Dominican Republic), Benjamin Cremaschi (USA) and David Ruiz (Honduras) away at national team camps.

Make that five; the club announced Saturday that Inter Miami CF Academy players Adrián Rosario, Benjamin Donato and Sebastian Otero have been called up by Puerto Rico’s senior national team for their upcoming Concacaf Nations League matchups during the September international window.

Puerto Rico and the trio of Academy representatives are set to play two matchups at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas. They defeated Bahamas 6-1 Saturday and will play Antigua and Barbuda Tuesday.
