Aviles is 18th different Heron to win Matchday honors
Nineteen-year-old defender Tomas Aviles scored Inter Miami’s only goal in the Herons’ 1-1 draw Saturday with New York City FC. It was enough to earn a spot on Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday. Aviles is the 18th different Heron to earn a nod this season.
Goalkeeper Drake Callender leads the way with five selections, followed closely by striker Leonardo Campana with four. Benjamin Cremaschi, Facundo Farias, Josef Martinez, Kamal Miller and Franco Negri have been selected twice each, and Jordi Alba, Aviles, Sergio Busquets, Diego Gomez, Serhiy Kryvstov, Lionel Messi, Jean Mota, Rodolfo Pizarro, Robert Taylor, David Ruiz, and DeAndre Yedlin each have a selection.
Former coach Phil Neville and coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino each have two weekly honors.
