In a move that had been anticipated for days, Spanish defender Jordi Alba announced his retirement from international football. It couldn’t come at a better time; the call-ups this window are going to exacerbate an already difficult task. At least Alba and former Spain and Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets will be around to lead the “B” team’s playoff chase.
Finland has called Robert Taylor up for the September international window, leaving Inter Miami without Tata Martino’s preferred attacking line. Taylor, who has 29 caps for the Finns, has shown flashes of brilliance playing left wing with Josef Martinez (Venezuela) at the point and Lionel Messi (Argentina) on the right wing. But he’s been quiet in recent matches. Maybe a couple of days away from the playoff-chase pressure cooker will help him find his mojo…or the Finnish equivalent.
