MLS Cup Champion Could Come to South Florida For Inter Miami
Fresh off winning the 2023 MLS Cup, news out of Columbus was that their star midfielder Julian Gressel would not have his contract renewed.
That sparked the rumor that he was on a shortlist to join Inter Miami during the January transfer season.
Journalist Tom Bogert seemed to confirm that rumor the Herons will make a huge splash in the free-agent market.
Sources: Inter Miami is in the final stages of talks over a deal with two-time MLS Cup-winning free agent Julian Gressel.

Not done yet but if all goes smooth, Gressel will head to Miami. Gressel among the most coveted FAs available. Big get for MIA.

Gressel spent one season with Columbus after being sold to the side by Vancouver for $850,000 in General Allocation Money in July 2023.
Before joining Vancouver, Gressel played nearly three seasons with DC United and started his professional career with Atlanta United — where he was named MLS Rookie of the Year following the 2017 season and helped United to the MLS Cup title the following year.
And, despite being born in Germany, Gressel became a U.S. citizen in 2022 and was called up to the U.S. Men’s National Team in January 2023. He earned his first cap against Serbia in January where he assisted Brandon Vazquez in a 2-1 loss.
Gressel was also included in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup roster for the U.S., appearing against St. Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago and Canada.
Now, rewind a bit to Gressel joining Atlanta United.
There he played for current Inter Miami boss Tata Martino, meaning the connection and integration to the Herons would be pretty seamless.
Also, Gressel plays as more of a defensive midfielder which would help shore up a leaky Inter Miami defense that allowed 54 goals in 34 regular-season matches this past season.
In all, Gressel would be a huge pickup for Inter Miami in January. He possesses skill, is playing solid football and could be a great addition to the Herons.
Of any of the rumors attached to Inter Miami, this is the one I’m most excited about.
