Three Up, Three Down: Kamal Miller shines in otherwise lackluster Inter Miami team effort against Nashville

The budding Inter Miami-Nashville rivalry is becoming must-watch TV with coaches Tata Martino and Gary Smith the stars. Smith “won” Wednesday, holding La Rosanegra scoreless at DRV PNK Stadium.

Three Up

Kamal Miller A+

[KEN] To be honest, I spent a lot of time over the past few weeks trying to understand how Miller was named to an MLS All-Star team. He’s looked more solid lately, and Wednesday was a master-class, earning him MLS Team of the Matchday honors (I swear I wrote this before the ToM was published!)

He had a goal-saving block early in the second-half, several amazingly timed tackles to stop Nashville from breaking, and he even — comically, to my eye — dribbled well into the attacking third trying to jumpstart the attack. Take a look:

We need that steady hand on the back line. His partner, Sergiy Kryvstov is a good center back, but a step slow at the best of times. Sunday’s match at LAFC will be the Herons’ ninth match since Aug. 2. That’s a lot of wear and tear.

[MATT] Yeah, Miller has certainly proven his worth, but the inconsistency still bothers me a bit.

When Miller is on, he is really on. But, when he's off... it can be disastrous. At the end of the day, I really want my defense to be consistent. Flighty defensive play can kill you in Major League Soccer.

But, against Nashville, Miller did what he had to do. This was a strong scoring side coming in and Miller did his part... and a little more... to keep that scoring prowess at bay.
