Las Garzas must develop and sell talent to continue bringing in stars
Inter Miami isn't in business to develop players for other clubs; it's in business to win trophies. To do that, the Herons want to sign the best players they can fit under Major League Soccer's roster rules. And, to do that, they need money, and lots of it.
Which brings us to Benjamin Cremaschi. The versatile 21-year-old midfielder recently signed a five-year contract with Parma Calcio of Italy's Serie A, making him the first Inter Miami Academy product to sign with one of Europe's "Big Five" leagues -- and earning Inter Miami a reported $4.7 million transfer fee.
“Seeing a player who grew up in our academy, debuted with the first team, and is now making the leap to European football is a source of immense pride for everyone at Inter Miami. There is no greater satisfaction for a club, and this is the model we want to solidify,” Inter Miami CF sporting director Alberto Marrero said.
Cremaschi was benched with a knee injury during most of his loan to the Italian side but showed enough character and quality to earn the transfer.
"I am proud to be able to say that my future is in Parma," he said in a news release from the club. "This city has become my home and I am happy to continue this journey with Parma Calcio. The last year has been difficult due to the injury, but this has made me even more determined to come back stronger than before."
Remembering Benjamin Cremaschi's top moments with Inter Miami
When the news that Parma wanted to sign Cremaschi came out a few weeks ago, Scotty Grays, an Inter Miami content creator and co-host of The Drive Pink Dialogue podcast, put together this video tribute to Benja, one of the most popular players in the Herons' short history. Go to the video below and see further videos posted in the replies. It's awesome; thanks, Scotty!

Cremaschi's transfer fee likely will be used to help the Herons pay star Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, 34, expected to be signed by Miami when it resolves a discovery rights issue with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Which young Herons might be next? According to Transferfeed.com, defender Noah Allen, another Miami homegrown who plays for Greece's youth national teams, has attracted attention from Greek sides Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, while 2024 draft pick Yannick Bright is on Italian Serie B club AC Monza's radar. Fiorentina, another Serie A team, has shown interest in Argentine forward Mateo Silvetti, 20, who signed with Miami in August from Newell's Old Boys and earned a starting role with the Herons.
Expect the rumor mill to reach peak intensity as the World Cup winds down and the summer transfer windows draw nearer. Inter Miami is usually an active participant, always trying to better its roster.
