Segovia assists earthquake victims as well as Inter Miami forwards

Segovia shows his heart is as big as his talent

Telasco Segovia, 23, is among the brightest of Inter Miami's young stars, becoming a midfield fixture for the Herons thanks largely for his ability to serve his teammates as a playmaker. During Major League Soccer's World Cup break, he offered another kind of assistance; he traveled to his native Venezuela to help victims of earthquakes that devastated northwestern and central parts of the country on June 24.

On Friday, he dedicated his goal in the Herons' 4-2 Leagues Cup win against Atlético de San Luis to the Venezuelan people.

“I was very happy with my goal, after all that has happened in Venezuela,” Segovia said at a pre-match news conference for tonight's game with Mexican powerhouse CF Monterrey. “Obviously, you think a lot about what’s happening (in Venezuela), but I also have to have my head (focused on playing soccer).

"But what happened affects all Venezuelans," he continued. "We all try to hope and pray things get better there day by day and in the long-term. I dedicated that goal to all the people of Venezuela and hope I could bring them some joy.”

Segovia traveled to Venezuela with his La Vintonito teammate Jon Aramburu and former national team player Tomas Rincon. The three helped collect and distribute supplies intended for the many left homeless by the quakes. More than 6,000 victims are confirmed dead, and estimates vary but place damages in the billions of dollars.

"It was one of the ugliest things I have ever seen in my life," Segovia said. "It is not the same living it in person as seeing videos on your phone. I continue to offer all my full support, and I hope it all works out for those families and those children who lost their relatives. It was a very tough thing to see.”

Segovia's goal against San Luis was his second of the season and 10th league goal in 47 appearances. He is tied with Lionel Messi and Ricardo De Paul with a team-high 8 assists in MLS action in 2026.

The Herons will need a strong match from Segovia tonight against Monterrey. Four of the club's top five scorers could miss the important Leagues Cup match: Messi is traveling to Argentina after his father's death earlier today, Luis Suárez is banned from Leagues Cup play for an incident after the Herons' loss to Seattle in last year's final, and Germán Berterame and Mateo Silvetti are injured.

Berterame is listed as doubtful for tonight's match; he hasn't played since being transported by ambulance to a Montréal hospital two weeks ago after suffering neck and shoulder injuries and a possible concussion after an aerial collision with two defenders while fighting for a set-piece cross.
