MLS Cup win would be crowning accomplishment
Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami isn't content to be Major League Soccer champions (which, to date, they have not been); Inter Miami's oft-stated ambition is to be a global brand associated with footballing excellence. They can climb another rung on that ladder today when they play the Vancouver Whitecaps for the MLS Cup (beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale).
But before toe hits leather, let's take a look at some of the franchise-defining wins from the Herons' first six seasons:
HONORABLE MENTION
Of course, after six seasons the Herons have savored more than five memorable wins; here are two that stand out:
10/25/24 -- IMCF 2, Atlanta United 1
First playoff victory -- The Herons' secured their second MLS Cup playoff berth in 2024, when captured their first Supporters' Shield by leading the league with a record 74 points. Los Garzas were heavy favorites against Atlanta United, which had finished ninth in the Eastern Conference and won a "play-in" match to squeak into the playoffs.
The series ended poorly for Inter Miami, as former U.S. Men's National Team goalie Brad Guzan helped the Five Stripes pull off one of the most stunning playoffs in MLS Cup playoffs history. But Luis Suárez (2nd minute) and Jordi Alba (60th) helped the Herons to their first playoff victory in Game 1 of that best-of-three series with a 2-1 win on Oct. 25, 2024.

11/8/25 -- IMCF 4, Nashville SC 0
Confidence builder -- The second honorable mention is directly related to the first. On Nov. 8 this year, Inter Miami faced a déjà vu playoff moment: they had defeated Nashville SC in Game 1 of their first-round series but lost Game 2 in Tennessee. For the second straight season, the Herons faced a must-win match against a lower-seeded side (Nashville was ranked sixth) to continue their quest for an MLS Cup.
To further complicate Miami's situation, the league suspended Suárez for Game 3 for kicking a Nashville player in the previous match. First-year Herons' coach Javier Mascherano chose to start 19-year-old Argentinian striker Mateo Silvetti alongside Lionel Messi and Tadeo Allende, a change that resulted in the Herons' most complete, well-balanced performance of the season. Messi and Allende each scored twice, eliminating the Coyotes 4-0, advancing in the postseason for the first time, and building confidence after a long and challenging season.
