How did Inter Miami players perform in the international break?
By Tom Vinall
On Thursday, there were games for a number of Inter Miami's international stars, let's see how they got on individually and collectively.
To begin, Leonardo Campana's Ecuador were in action at home to Diego Gomez' Paraguay in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying.
It was pretty non eventful for both teams and for both players. Campana was a second half sub, replacing Gonzalo Plata with 24 minutes of action remaining, but was unable to make an impact on the game, whilst Diego Gomez was not included in the matchday squad for the visitors.
The game ended in a 0-0 draw, in a very non eventful game in Quito. Ecuador dominated procedings, having 77% of the ball and 15 shots to Paraguay's 3, but were unable to create any real chances of note, as they were forced into potshots from distance that never really troubled the Paraguay goal at any stage of the game.
Elsewhere, the GOAT, Lionel Messi, was back in action for Argentina for the first time since the Copa America final, as they played away to Venezuela in absolutely horrendous conditions, in a game that should not really have been played.
In any case, it was played, though it was not a game that will live long in the memory. A pretty stale 0-0 draw ensued, with veteran Salomon Rondon grabbing a second half equaliser after fellow veteran, Nicolas Otamendi, had given the World and South American champions the lead early on in the first half.
Messi started the game, playing up front with Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid, but in truth was unable to make much of an impact on the game, as was the case with most players due to the terrible conditions of the game.
Finally, David Ruiz was not in the matchday squad for Honduras as they secured a 3-2 victory over French Guiana in the CONCACAF nations league.
