Inter Miami had an impressive week last week. The Herons secure their first playoff victory against Nashville SC. Now, the team is waiting for Saturday to end the series with a 2-0 record. Las Garzas came to an agreement and renewed Lionel Messi’s contract until 2028.
It’s clear that Inter Miami is preparing for the future by securing Lionel Messi, David Ruiz, and signing not only veteran superstars but also emerging talents like Mateo Silvetti.
Javier Mascherano knows that to win as many games as possible, Inter Miami needs to have a mixed squad with young gems and experienced players.
Another news that surrounded the Heron’s world was the extension deal for Yannick Bright.
Yannick Bright will be at Miami for three more years
Inter Miami has secured its midfield after Sergio Busquets announced he is leaving the team and retiring after the end of the season. With the signing of Rodrigo De Paul, Mascherano needed to retain one of his best players.
Let’s remember that Federico Redondo and Benjamin Cremaschi are out of the squad after their departure to Europe. This leaves the Herons with only three crucial players to fill the middle of the field. Even though the trio has done an important job these last couple of games, the Herons couldn’t let Bright walk off as a free agent after December.
I believe it is ridiculous to mention that the moment the Italian youngster became a free agent, a club would automatically sign him. By extending his contract, David Beckham and the Mas brothers keep a player with great ball recovery and excellent awareness.
Without earning the flashes, the silent job performed by Yannick Bright is crucial for the squad's functionality. Everyone knows that Rodrigo De Paul is more offensive, and Busquets tends to step back and play with the center backs, but it’s Bright who displays the defensive game in the center of the field.
The long runs and defensive skills make him a valuable asset on Mascherano’s starting lineup, so valuable that when he is not on the field, Inter Miami struggles and can’t defend properly.
However, Las Garzas are clever and, on Bright’s contract, they secure an option to extend the deal one more year without negotiations - meaning that after the 2028 season, the former Wildcat player could play one more year, until 2029.
With David Ruiz also renewed, it will be interesting to see how Mascherano sets up the midfield without Sergio Busquets and how the team performs.
