Official: Inter Miami Inks Midfielder Facundo Farias from Colon

We mentioned this was in the works a few weeks ago. Now, it is official that attacking midfielder Facundo Farias has signed with Inter Miami. Plus updates on Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez.

I think it is safe to say that Inter Miami is about done in this transfer window.

Aside from Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, the team confirmed it has added its second U-22 signing in Facundo Farias from Argentine side Colon.

Let’s dive in and update some other stuff for the Herons.

Inter Miami Adds Midfield Options with Facundo Farias

About two weeks ago, we mentioned that Inter Miami signing Farias was a strong possibility.

Now, it has been confirmed the club has bought the attacking midfielder from Argentine side CA Colon.

The only terms of the deal that are public is that his contract runs through the 2026 season with an option to extend to the 2027-2028 campaign.

Farias is the second U-22 initiative signing for Inter Miami after the club picked up Diego Gomez from Club Libertad earlier in the transfer window.

As we mentioned, Farias has had little senior side experience — bumping up to Colon’s top flight in 2020-2021.

He’s played as an attacking midfielder but has also seen time as a center attacker or a left-wing player.

Over his entire time at Colon, Farias has notched 16 goals and nine assists across 95 games in all competitions.

"Facundo is a player with a lot of promise and we’re excited to bring him to Inter Miami. We believe he will be able to realize his potential here and bolster our options in a number of positions."

Chris Henderson, Inter Miami

It is likely that Inter Miami will use a U-22 Initiative slot for Farias which does not count against the team’s salary cap.

Jordi Alba On The Way To Miami

While it’s been official that former Barcelona defender Jordi Alba was joining Inter Miami on a free transfer, he’s finally on his way.

According to a post on his Instagram account, Alba is literally on his way to South Florida on Saturday and could be ready for training with the team on Monday.

Alba will reunite with Busquets and Messi from Barcelona where he chose to end his contract with a year remaining.

No matter what, Alba will provide much-needed support for an Inter Miami defense that has struggled during the Major League Soccer campaign.

We May Not Be Done With Luis Suarez

As we mentioned earlier this week, Gremio forward Luis Suarez will not be joining Messi, Busquets and Alba in South Florida this transfer season.

However, reports indicate he will make his way to Inter Miami in December.

Brazilian side Gremio confirmed that Suarez was not buying out the rest of his contract or paying back his salary in order to leave early and come to Inter.

However, now it is suggested he will transfer to Inter Miami during the December 2023 window and reunite with fellow Barcelona alums Messi, Busquets and Alba.

So, it seems we’re adding one more former Barcelona player… at some point.
