What Will Inter Miami Do With Lionel Messi?

Now that the Herons are squarely out of the playoffs, rumors are starting to fly on what the team might do with its latest signing… Lionel Messi.

A Potential Return to Barcelona For Messi

Of course, the biggest rumor out there is that Messi will make a return move to Barcelona for the winter.

Remember, when a team is out of the playoffs, it can loan its players out to anyone abroad, so Inter Miami does have the option of sending Messi to Barcelona until January.

As Ken pointed out earlier this week in an edition of The Daily Heron, the rumor is that Inter Miami management will respect Messi’s wishes and loan him to his former club.

However, it’s highly unlikely this will happen (again, as Ken pointed out) because Messi is fresh off a month-long injury after playing a full season at Paris Saint-Germain and half a season for Inter Miami.

It’s increasingly likely that Messi will want to take some time off from playing, focus on his international duty with Argentina and prepare for the 2024 season for the Herons.

I think, if a return to Barcelona happens, it will be in the form of a friendly between Inter Miami and Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou when renovations to the stadium are complete (as I mentioned here).
